Welcome to Mercy Street Ministries! Mercy Street Church of Christ is a church planting in Abilene, Texas. The Mercy Street Church of Christ is a multi-racial, multi-cultural, gender-inclusive Church of Christ. Celebrating over 11 Years of web-based Ministry! We have now been at this web site for over 11 years proclaiming the good news of Jesus. We're happy you're here among the thousands who visit us each week. We welcome your feedback via our email address: mercystreetchurch@gmail.com Our continued aim is to point you to the love of God through Jesus Christ; and with God's blessings, we'll do so. Grace and peace to you and yours. Stan & Lorrie. New Sermon Series - "Racially Divided Kingdom?" The world talks a lot about racial reconciliation -- and so does the church. Yet, progress seems pretty slow. Is that all right? Are the detours in the road, the setbacks that turn back the clock, acceptable as we journey toward a kingdom where color barriers and ALL forms of division will be gone forever? Sermon Series - "The Power of Used Bibles." "We present you with this Book, the most valuable thing that this world affords." Newly crowned Queen Elizabeth heard that glowing tribute along with God's Word. But how can the Bible have value and transform lives and save souls when it remains untouched, unread, even undusted? Tune in for a closer look at the power of used Bibles! Sermon Series - "Loving Hatred" - A good friendship, observes one philosopher, cannot be based just on having a common enemy. But it's actually fun to hold a grudge, to mentally fondle our anger. Deep down, we love to hate. How does a Christian break this cycle? Sermon Series - "There's More to Love Than We Think" - You may know this chapter by heart, but have you taken it to heart? There's more to love than the gooey lyrics of romantic ballads. First Corinthians chapter 13 shatters the comfort zone of the complacent Christian and the complacent church. "Here I Stand" - It began the Protestant Reformation when Martin Luther nailed his "95 Theses" to the Wittenburg Palace church door in October 1517. Now these 493 years later, as the world moves forward, is it time for God's people to say again: "Here I stand"? Join us in recollecting Martin Luther's historic stand for biblical light and truth in a recent sermon series. You'll enjoy this article on Principles of Jesus regarding the planned Park51 Islamic Center near Ground Zero in NYC. Written by Yale's Joseph Cumming, the Director of the Center’s Reconciliation Program. Joseph’s article suggests ways forward for Muslims and Christians with reference to wisdom from the Bible and Qur’an. Click "Intersections" and locate the article. News: The Abilene Reporter News published an article about the Mercy Street Church of Christ in the Friday, 2-26-10 edition. The article is entitled, "Women in the church: moving toward equality." It was written by Abilene Reporter Sarah Stirman. Go to the following link to read the article: http://www.reporternews.com/news/2010/feb/25/women-in-the-church-moving-toward-equality/ News: Our friend Leroy Garrett has written a fine essay mentioning Mercy Street Church of Christ and our inclusive mission. Take time to read it. We've posted a copy of it on this web site under "Latest News." You can also search his web site leroygarrett.org Our friend JTB has also posted it on her blog "Rude Truth." Thanks Leroy. Thanks JTB. Blessings to you. We gather together for worship in the upper room at the home of Stan & Lorrie Baldwin. You are invited to worship with us. Let us know (email) if you'd like to worship with us. We would love to have you join us. Our worship time together includes praise and prayer in word and song. We participate in the Lord’s Supper and hear a good word proclaimed from scripture. Women and men equally participate in our service. Seeking Women Preachers! We are scheduling guest preachers for our worship services for the next few months. If you feel called by God to preach contact Stan at the following email address. Or maybe you don't have that mysterious prompting people refer to as a "calling." Perhaps you just have a good word to proclaim to the church. Women from the Church of Christ heritage from the Abilene, Texas area or those who might be traveling to our fair city and would be willing to guest preach are encouraged to participate. I know we will be blessed. Our email address is: mercystreetchurch@gmail.com Let us know if you’d like to participate. God loves people. We seek to be people hungry to live out the way of Jesus. People working to live by the power of the resurrection now. It's about people with ideas and dreams, and it's about the raw mystery that brings us together to make a church. We honor as our spiritual heritage those attempts that began in America early in the 19th century to restore the life and spirit of Christianity as envisioned by Jesus and his apostles. So we are a community of believers - disciples of Jesus - who have confessed their faith in him and have been baptized into him. And we take seriously His teachings and their implications for the world in which we live. Please pray for this new work. To God be the glory! Amen. "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen." --The Apostle Peter, 2 Peter 3:18.
